About Us

We can’t tell you how grateful we are that you are here. Not to sound cheesy, but it is such an honor, and so humbling that you are considering us to be a part of one of the most important, and intimate days of your lives. We feel that in order to create photographs that truly represent who you are on your wedding day, we need to put in some time to get to know each other. When you are around strangers, it can be hard to truly be yourself. But being around friends is effortless. We can’t wait to meet you, but until we do, we want to tell you a little bit about us:

We are Chris and Shae. Long story very, (very) short: We fell in love in the summer of 2009, photographed our first wedding together a year later, and have been documenting love ever since. We live in Tacoma Washington with our son Oliver, surrounded by all the beautiful mountains, rivers, oceans, and forests of the Pacific Northwest and Puget Sound. All this natural beauty means that there is no shortage of places to explore for those who look. We specialize in intimate weddings, engagements, and elopements for creative and adventurous couples like you.

Some things about Shae:

  • I really… really like coffee. I mean I like Chris, Oliver and Jesus more but coffee is really great.

  • Laughing can be fun and painful for me. Sometimes I laugh so hard I cry and if you ever meet my little brother Ben he may tell you how one time I laughed so hard I wet my pants, but most people would tell you Ben’s a liar so there’s no way to know for sure.

  • I enjoy biking, but I’m not gonna lie, I hate hills. One day I’d like to have an electric bike but I’m afraid by the time I can afford one I’ll also be able to beat Chris up a hill and then my pride won't be able to afford an electric bike anymore.

  • I love folk music. Listen to Look Out Mama by Hurray for the Riff Raff. You’ll become a lover too or you wont like it... Either way we can still be friends.

Some things about Chris:

  • I try to keep things simple, slow down, and enjoy life.

  • I'm definitly a bit of an introvert, but being a photographer has brought out the extrovert in me.
  • My favorite ways to get around are bike, walk, and trains of any kind. If your wedding is in Tacoma, you can guarantee that I’m going to try to convince Shae that we can ride our bikes there.

  • Right now I’m listening to The Lumineers, The Head & The Heart, and Iron & Wine.

  • I enjoy the little adventures close to home just as much the big ones. If you look closely, they are always there. Especially here in the Pacific Northwest. There is so much all around us (but you already knew that).

Our Approach

Our photography is a natural candid, documentary syle. We photograph you as you are (with just the right amount of direction to make sure you are in the best light and look natural). You will look best when you feel relaxed and at ease.

Here is a quick rundown of what happens when you decide we are the photographers for you:

  1. You write to us telling us who you are, location, and date of your wedding, and most importantly your love story!
  2. We meet for coffee, become friends, you decide you can’t imagine anyone else photographing your wedding, we do deposits, contracts, and you are booked!
  3. Engagement Photos: No pressure, just us getting to know each other a bit more, having a good time, and taking photos while we’re at it. There will probably be things like going to your favorite coffee shop, taking a hike into the mountains, riding bikes to the bookstore, or having a picnic beside a creek.
  4. Getting closer. We check in (and maybe even meet for coffee again… because we can). Shae will definitely stalk your wedding board on Pinterest.
  5. The Wedding: (How we work on the day: VERY minimal posing, telling the story of your wedding, not writing it)
  6. Back up photos, get to work editing. 3-4 weeks we will send a slideshow. You will probably cry when you see it. It’s okay. It made us cry too. About 1 week later you will finally get a tiny package in the mail. You will excitedly tear it open and finally have a lovely wooden flash drive with your photographs ready to share and print!
  7. We start the album design, and about 4 to 8 weeks later you will have your wedding album.
  8. You set out to start your new life together, with the story of how it all began written in photographs on the pages of your wedding album to share with everyone important in your life.
